About Us

The Deep Arts is a school of Source Work and
Imaginal Development for writers, filmmakers,
and the collaborators behind culture-defining work.

Every storyteller has studied the Hero’s Journey. What we’ve forgotten is that the writer must travel it, too, descending into the depths of the imagination to return with the elixir: the story only they can tell.

Source Work is a method that teaches writers to consciously court the unconscious and reach into the imaginal realm for rich creative material, and guidance shaping it into stories that resonate universally. The method draws on Jungian dreamwork, depth psychology, meditation, acting practice, somatic experiencing, and clinical studies of the creative process.

Our mission is to bring this practice to the writers and filmmakers shaping culture, amplifying their process and anchoring it in the human imagination.

Pattern & Matter

Masterful creative work requires a constant interplay of instinct and analysis, soul and structure, exploration and method.

We call it Pattern and Matter. Every artist naturally favors one. But when either dominates, the work falls out of balance. A story can hit every beat and still feel lifeless. A writer can have a hundred brilliant instincts, but without form, none of them reach an audience.

Today’s creative industries are tipping the scales toward Pattern, optimizing for speed and scale while divesting from meaning. Source Work restores the balance.

Why Now

Every screen-based technology we invent mirrors an ability we’ve forgotten we have.

And each time we let a machine do it for us, we let more of that ability slip away. As AI generates images at record speed, we risk losing touch with our own innate image-making capacity: the trait that sets our story-minded, world-building, myth-making species apart.

A generated image arrives without feeling, without a body, without memory. We can look at it, but we can’t live inside it. Source Work is a counter-technology to today’s generative age. An investment in the original source of all images and stories.

Molly Virostek

Molly is a writer and creative mentor trained in Creative Writing at UCLA. She has spent a decade as a brand storyteller and creative strategist for global brands, now leads her own storytelling studio, and is developing work for film and the stage.

Her grounding in story structure, and her fascination with how narrative creates meaning and transformation, led her into Jungian dreamwork and the realm of the unconscious, where she found her way back to the source of her own work. Today she guides writers and creatives into that same deep place, and helps them shape what they find into stories that resonate.
